Your stones and crystals will need to be reformatted and activated on a regular basis, and we do include instructions on how to perform this function. Spreading the Runes – Think of spreading runes in the same manner as working with tarot cards. The runes are arranged in a predetermined layout (such as the Celtic Cross), where each position represents its own meaning to the spread.
Drawing Runes – For seekers of quick answers, drawing runes from a bag is helpful for users who do not have time to perform a full cast. You simply ask a question, and then extract 1 to 3 stones to receive a response.
Casting Runes – While many people prefer the seemingly easy method of casting runes, it is also the most difficult to become skilled at. Users must learn how to trust their intuition and master free-association. When compared to tarot, there is little structure when casting runes.
How many rune stones should I use? Here's a question that often surfaces when casting. While it may seem tempting to use all of the gemstone runes offered in your Unexplainable Store purchase, beginners typically find it easiest to start with a daily reading using one stone from a set. The day rune approach is ideal for people looking for the answer to a single question.
Keep in mind that casting too many runes can introduce conflicting influences and clutter a reading. Important and complex issues can benefit from the use of more runes, but for the typical casting of stones, five runes is a more manageable number.
How to Cast Runes
In an ideal situation, runes are cast on an East-West axis or facing the sun. First, lay a white cloth down to determine the direction of the casting. Some people have drawn or painted a circle divided into four sections to represent the elements (fire, wind, earth and water). When the runes are cast, it is easier to associate the signs with the section of the circle they fall into.
Before casting the runes, your mind should be clear and focused as you concentrate on your question. Will I get a promotion soon? Should I move to California? Have I found Mr. Right? Draw your runes from box, bag or pouch, and cast onto the cloth. The runes that have fallen right side up are read. Don't forget to note the position of the runes because if they are reversed – prepare yourself for a different meaning that will affect the overall reading.
Other ways of casting runes include:
Single Stone Reading – Hold the bag of runes in your receptive hand – the one associated with receiving energy into the body. For a right-handed person, it is the left hand with the reverse for lefties. Using the fingers of your receptive hand, shuffle the stones to mix them up. Before you remove a stone from the bag, mentally or ask aloud your first question. Read the symbol inscribed on the stone and interpret it. If you find that you need another stone for clarification, return all the stones to the bag and rephrase your question.
Four Stone Reading – Remove four stones from the bag – one at a time. Read the inscription on the stones before placing them on a flat surface. Lay the chosen stones from left to right to interpret. Stone #1 represents past influences. Stone #2 represents current influences. Stone #3 represents future influences. Stone #4 represents the overall energies/lessons if all behaviors do not change.
