Endorphin Release
Endorphins occur naturally in the brain and are very effective at stopping pain and making us feel good. Runners often experience a natural "high" while on long runs. Research shows that the more fit an athlete is, the more receptive the athlete is to endorphins. And as intensity and duration of exercise increase, the concentration of endorphins released also increases. So, if you want to be able to stimulate the release of more endorphins in your body, then you want to start getting into better physical shape. Here are some other tips and tricks that you can use to increase the release of endorphins:
- Make sure that you get adequate sleep at night. Fatigue is a kill joy. Your body does all its refueling at night when you sleep. Let it happen.
- Try hot peppers. Believe it or not, hot chiles do stimulate the flow of endorphins because the heat tricks the body into thinking its on fire. This is why some of your friends are addicted to hot sauce.
- Light to moderate drinking triggers the "feel good" chemicals in your brain, and that can be a good thing, but don't go overboard.
- Acupuncture? Yes, it does work for some folks. If you are up to it, give it a try!
- In between your brain entrainment sessions listen to classical or new age music. Studies have shown that listening to classical or new age music without words not only stimulates release of endorphins but it can even alter brain wave activity resulting in feelings of peace, relaxation, and in some cases, a sense of euphoria. What's not to like?
- Give something to someone who needs it. The act of giving something away to someone in need and seeing their expression of gratitude is a natural high all to itself. It's good karma too! Donate your time if that is all you can give.
- Finally, get a massage if you can. A nice rub down can be a great way to induce a blissful state.
